Automated and Streamlined Testing Optimized Production Scalability

Background:

In 2020, SK Innovation, the fifth-largest EV battery makers in the world, established its first Chinese battery plant in Jiangsu, China under a joint venture with BAIC BJEV, China’s leading electrical vehicle maker. End-of-line (EOL) quality testing is a critical step in battery cell production that ensures each battery cell meets the required quality and performance standards before it leaves the factory.

Challenge:

As most of the EOL testing was handled manually by a large team of technicians, the JV battery plant needed to implement an automated EOL testing system to keep up with increasing demand for its batteries. The existing manual testing process was slow, labor-intensive, expensive, and struggled to maintain consistent test quality.

Solution：

Soaring’s team worked closely with the JV battery plant team to understand their testing requirements and streamline the testing process before Soaring designed and implemented an automated EOL testing system that met all specific needs of the customer.

Results & Benefits：

The automated EOL testing system significantly increased testing throughput, improved test consistency, and reduced labor cost by 95%. In addition, the system also provided the customer with real-team test data for analysis and process improvement.
