Game-changing Validation Lab Helped CATL Kick Off a New Battery Plant

Background

In 2019, CATL, the world’s largest EV battery manufacturer, broke ground on CATT, its first battery cell manufacturing plant outside of China, located in Thuringia, Germany. With a total investment of 1.8 billion Euros, CATT aimed to begin commercial production by the end of 2022. To meet this ambitious timeline, it was critical for CATT to build a highly efficient validation lab to ensure battery quality, accelerate time to market, and reduce production costs.

Challenge

The CATT validation lab faced the challenge of validating their batteries for a wide range of local customers in Germany, including those in the EV, grid, and commercial application sectors. Each application had unique performance requirements, which necessitated a variety of test protocols and processes that differed from those used in China.

Solution

Working closely with CATT engineers, Soaring helped establish a highly flexible validation lab for CATT. Soaring adopted a modular approach to customize the testing solution, allowing CATT to quickly reconfigure the lab for different types of tests. Soaring also provided a skilled team with diverse expertise and experience, capable of handling the wide range of test requirements.

Results & Benefits

Soaring’s solution helped CATT successfully kick off commercial production in December 2022. CATT’s highly flexible validation lab became a competitive advantage, enabling the company to accelerate time to market, safeguard product quality, and reduce production costs.
